“Lands’ End is a well known clothing retailer which operates from their 240,000 square foot, state of the art distribution centre in Rutland. The company has been in the industry since 1963 and has grown from their origins in Wisconsin, USA to supply most of Europe through their online network.

Quantum Construction worked on the multi million pound extension to their European distribution centre, delivering the project ahead of schedule whilst meeting the detailed environmental challenges imposed by the client.

Based in the heart of Birmingham City centre the project involved refurbishment of 1 floor of an occupied building whilst also carrying out external fabric repairs and maintenance.


Refurbishment involved stripping out the current internal layout and restoring the floor to an open plan state finished to a specification to attract future tenants.


The surrounding floors were in occupation and shared access methods. Working alongside these constraints meant that careful consideration was required for noisy work and both removing material and bringing in new components.


Concrete repairs and sealant replacement on the external façade posed a challenge due to the location. Works were to be carried out on two elevations adjacent to a busy road and footpath and the remaining elevations penned in by a fully enclosed courtyard with limited access. To overcome the predicament operatives abseiled from the roof to carry out the works.


Despite the constraints and challenges the project posed it was completed within programme with a satisfied client.
